<raises hand> … but I know I’m a weirdo! You don’t have any kind of external optical drive? DVD player? Game console? I guess I know the answer already :nyah: True, most people don’t use CDs regularly but they’re not dead yet. I was honestly surprised there’s not a digital version of The Neon Live (I never checked) but I’m sure it will be coming soon.

And honestly, I rip all my CDs losslessly so it wouldn’t be fair to say I do much music listening directly from CD. I do like having the physical CDs though, and (some) vinyl. They all have a time and a place!

Me, I like the tangible, and even locally stored digital files when using those, but would keep the disc myself. Also not a fan of streaming barring musical emergencies.

Well, that was why I asked about the Blu-ray player. They can play CDs too, and are still pretty contemporary.

As for going in on digital, a phone or drive can fail, and cloud storage can become inaccessible or expensive to maintain. It's not as if I don't also use those regardless, but like hell would I jump ship to that alone. Plus, some of us like FLAC rips, and not every release is offered in such quality. Then you have the argument that mastering for some formats outshines some others...well, let's say I have enough justification not to set up a table on my sidewalk and set my furry COWBOY out on it for sale. ;)

Plus, and not sound like a broken...well, you know, I love the art! Be it 12"x12" or 5"x5"-(which does make me sad), I like having something I can enjoy unto itself without having to charge or turn a device on. Imagine every painting in a museum needing a power socket near it...no, I like having that sleeve art in tangible form.

Trust me, I understand space can come at a premium, but I find a way to keep what I got and endeavor to continue. :blkspkr:

Sadly since the pandemic, mail moves far more slowly now. We ship CDs across the world. As a guide from posting from UK to US, I'd say it was like this:

Before 2020, it was regular for a CD to arrive in 4-5 days (and nearly always under a week)
During 2020, lost of mail went missing/didn't get delivered/USPS backlog, you had to allow around 6 weeks!
Now we're in 2022, CDs are taking 2-3 weeks to arrive. Improved, but old backlogs still affect international mail sorting

Seems to be worse on the west coast. Why? Mail doesn't fly in to LA and then get sorted for delivery in California. We paid for tracking back in 2020 (to see where the delays were) and were astonished to see mail land east coast and slowly make its way across the country....by truck! Bizarre mail sorting. Something delivered in, say, Austin wouldn't fly in to Austin, it would land east coast and diagonally go from state to state, being tracked on its ride.

Conclusion: things have got better, but they weren't as good as they were back in 2019. Expect CDs to take weeks not days to arrive from the UK.

The pre-order will not only secure you a copy of the 4-CD album, but it also offers you the chance to have your name (or a name of your choice) included in the album credits on the release, and will also enter you into a competition to win one of ten 'The Neon Live' triple-pack vinyl test-pressings, as well as a competition to win Vince Clarke's own framed award in recognition of 50,000 tickets sold for the UK leg of the tour in October 2021. And just to be clear if you have already ordered the 2-CD, 3-Vinyl or 4-CD editions of 'The Neon Live' then you are already entered into the competitions to win those items. More about the competitions, including terms and conditions and pictures of Vince's award, are below.

ERASURE: 'THE NEON LIVE' - WE HAVE A NEW SCHEDULE FOR THE DELIVERY OF THE LIMITED-EDITION 4-CD AND 3-VINYL FORMATS
In the last newsletter I mentioned that this week I was meeting with the fine folk from Live Here Now to go over the plans for the release of the limited-edition 4-CD and 3-Vinyl editions of 'The Neon Live'. That meeting happened as planned but unfortunately we have been forced to move the release of both of those formats to later in the year than we had originally planned. It's not the news we had hoped to bring you, but we have been hit by all sorts of challenges along the way...

I've mentioned before how challenging vinyl-production is at the moment and if anything that is getting worse, in part as a result of an global shortage of nickel (an unexpectedly frustrating result of the current conflict in Ukraine if you believe it). What has nickel got to do with vinyl records I hear you ask? Well, the production process of vinyl records uses nickel to make the stamps used in the pressing of each disc. Not only that but the manufacturing process uses lacquer masters (the master discs that are 'cut' and from which the nickel stamps are made) and not only did we suffer from a lack of nickel, but two of the lacquers broke, meaning they had to be recut before we were even able to make test-pressings and get the audio approved.

I know that all sounds a bit technical but we wanted you to give you an idea what's been going on to help you to understand why the release date has had to be pushed back. Our current target is to get everything out by the end of the year, and that's what we're working towards right now. If anything changes again we will, of course, let you know. I am so sorry to bring you such disappointing news but please rest assured that we are doing everything we can to get the project turned around by the end of the year without compromising the quality of the releases. Thank you so much for your continued patience. Onwards and upwards...
