Breathe Of My Leaves to release single “Clarke & Bell” on June 30, 2023.

Image

The single is from an imminent 13-track album.

Vancouver, BC, Canada – Breathe Of My Leaves, comprised of Stephano Barberis (music) and Jordan Gant (vocals/lyrics), are releasing “Clarke & Bell” on June 30th, 2023 across all streaming platforms.

“Clarke & Bell” is a tribute to the pop duo Erasure. But it’s more than that. It also cleverly intertwines that love-letter to Vince Clarke and Andy Bell with a few metaphors. The current era’s digital/AI foundation is put in stark contrast to the 1980’s analogue world tapestry, and ironically decreeing that synthetic decade as authentic reality, and conversely, all things of this current era being the actual synthetic/artificial universe.

The frantic song is about how ridiculous and frazzled this world has become and how the music of Erasure saves us from the shallow banality of today.

Adding more fun dichotomies are a major/minor-shifting main vocal tune, a frenetic breakdown and some deep and sexy, Barry White-esque, porn-tinged double-entendres that equate analogue equipment with sex acts.

The initial instrumental demo of this song was humourously entitled “Escape To The Island Of Rogue Sex Robots” (emphasis on escaping to, not from) and was very The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) sounding with a modern “synthwave” feel, but that slowly morphed into its final hi-nrg incarnation. Stephano states, “We wanted to have a feel good song and include Erasure in it somehow (because they are the greatest pop duo of all time, Amen!) so Jordan went away and listened to some Erasure (happened to be “Love To Hate You”) and suddenly was struck with the inspiration of building this song’s idea. The analogue synths on Erasure’s Chorus album are so warm-sounding that you often forget you’re listening to a purely synth-driven album. And the melodies are immaculate.”

The single includes a new bonus track called “Star-Crossed,” which features Jordan on vocals along with Tareya, who dueted on the Breathe Of My Leaves single “Supernova Heart” this past winter. The moody “Star-Crossed” is a heartbreak song with a space-y vibe.

A 13-track album is imminent, now having a name and a release date (to be announced soon).

——-

“Clarke & Bell” follows up the successful singles ”All The Memories Made,” “Us,“ “Avalon,” “Sweet Music Man” and “Supernova Heart” that became runaway hits on electronic and pop radio stations across North America, Europe/UK, Australia and the Middle East. All three singles last year were listed in many “Best Of 2022” lists, with “Sweet Music Man” being honoured with Best Song Of 2022 by synthpop juggernaut Jimm Kjelgaard’s The Sol of Synth-Pop weekly radio show, amongst being listed as the top song of the year by other DJ’s as well as industry titan Kurt Sinclair-Hall of Big Satsuma Radio.

- MORE ABOUT BREATHE OF MY LEAVES –

Breathe Of My Leaves is an electronic music project created 20 years ago by Stephano Barberis experimenting with sounds. It slowly crystallised into the entity it is now when the Apocalypse Lovers EP and first album Pangeometrica were released in 2013 (including the singles “Cyclops,” “Lost In Love,” “We Kissed As Leaves Swirled Around Us,” “Sugarcoated Shrapnel“ and “Exalt”).

Stephano Barberis is a multiple-award winning director who directed the visuals for Erasure’s latest “Neon Tour” and their music video for “Time (Hearts Full Of Love)” in addition to over 200 other music videos and is the recipient of 45 directorial and video awards. Jordan Gant is an established singer, songwriter and producer who was previously a part of pop duo Escape The Audience, who were represented by the same management team as The Killers.

🟩 Happy Friday, little Breathies with your cute little sleepy angel wake-up faces.

We have a brand new single out today called “Clarke & Bell” and it’s a tribute to Erasure - the greatest pop duo that will ever walk this planet.

There’s also a brand new bonus track on the single called “Star-Crossed.”

All pertinent streaming links can be found here: https://linktr.ee/breatheofmyleaves

More info is heading toward your sweet tiny ear-holes this Sunday as the magnificent Jimm Kjelgaard will be announcing the name and release date of our brand new 13-track album on his colossus of a synth-pop radio show The Sol of Synth-Pop (more info on this soon).

We are so excited for this album. We’ve purposely been keeping what we feel are the strongest songs hidden until after its release.

Thank you for all your ongoing support. We love every single one of you dearly. 🤍

SOMETHING FOR THE WEEKEND: LISTEN TO 'CLARKE & BELL' BREATHE OF MY LEAVES' TRIBUTE TO ERASURE
Most of the items that I post for you in this part of the newsletter are cover versions, remixes and reworkings of Erasure tracks, but occasionally I manage to bring you something a little different, and this week's 'Something For The Weekend' selection is one of those. From electronic duo Breathe Of My Leaves (which incidentally features our friend Stephano Barberis who not only made the video for Erasure's 'Time (Hearts Full of Love)' but who was also responsible for all of the film content that was used on the video screens on Erasure's 'The Neon Tour') this is the world premiere of the video for 'Clarke & Bell', a tribute to Erasure. When I asked Stephano why he wanted to pay tribute to Vince and Andy in this way he told me, "Erasure have been my favourite band since I first heard them when I was a teenager. I truly believe that Vince and Andy are the best pop songwriting duo that will ever walk this planet, so I had wanted to do some sort of tribute to them for a while but I didn’t want us to cover them because I’m too emotionally close to the material, but I did ask Jordan (my vocalist and co-songwriter) to try and throw in a lyric like "then I threw on some Clarke & Bell" in a feel-good song we had. He later surprised me with the lyrics centred around Erasure entirely so I took the song and infused it with more of a rapturous, hi-nrg feel to match his exuberant vocal. There isn’t a musician I know who doesn’t love them or who, at the very least, begrudgingly admire their miraculous knack for a magic tune that brings the goosebumps or tears of joy. They’ve changed so many lives for the better with the joy they bring." And you can't say fairer than that. Watch the 'Clarke & Bell' below and follow the links in the description for more about Breathe of My Leaves.

Erasure. Always.

CHEERS!
