1. How did the original single come about?
Hello Mark, hello everyone, it's a pleasure for me to answer these questions that in a way are very interesting.
I have been a musician for 25 years who has written songs thinking that each collaborator feels identified with the song that they have to interpret. They are not songs written at random, they are themes that must be linked with the collaborator and with their way of singing, etc. That's how I write everything and that's when the magic is created.
The song "Breathing love" as I put it in the art book of the single in 2013 is a song that I wrote and it is dedicated to Andy, I wanted to give it to him in life, the song talks a little about what Andy has experienced lovingly and He rounds up a bit on that great loss that he had with Paul at the time, and talks a bit more about what he has been adding to in his new relationship with Stephen, he is a person who loves with his heart on his sleeve, he is a wonderful person that if he loves you, he extends his hand completely without hesitation. and he is a person who would never sing something out of commitment if he doesn't touch his heart. that's the way Andy is.
I will never forget when I showed him the lyrics and the tears that came out of him, it was a magical moment. the connection that he had immediately and all that went through his head, he immediately said YES!!! of course I record it !!!
It was important to me that Andy could sing something that I wrote for him, and that he knew how important it is to me as an artist and friend, since he is the biggest influence I had when I was young, and for me it was a gift from my heart,Marie Fredrikson and I were talking about doing something together, then she sadly passed away, that made me sad because something wonderful had followed, that she could sing something that I had written for her, when I write something for someone it is because born from my heart and that theme will stay there stored in the trunk,and life gave us the opportunity for Andy and I to record this song together.
2. Once you got together was it an easy process recording the track with Andy?
Yes, everything happened naturally, it was an immediate connection with the song, Andy felt his life go by when he learned the lyrics, he didn't doubt for two seconds that it was a song that talks about him and how deep the song itself was.
3. You also got to perform live on stage with Andy playing synths,how was that day for you?
It was something wonderful, the Palacio de los Deportes is one of the most important venues in Mexico City, and just around there was already something important, getting on the same stage with Andy Bell and playing the most important songs of Erasure and his solo work is something indescribable, since before going on stage 15 thousand people were waiting for Andy, we were behind the stage curtain and it was deafening how Andy shouted, my fans excited to see me with him on that incredible stage, the attentive press at every step we took, the tv, etc.
It was an incredible concert, full of magic. he happy, he turned to see me very excited. the toast we had after the big show together.
The rehearsal we had prior to that show was incredible in a personal way, listening to him sing the songs that I grew up hearing in my room when I was young, and it was that moment where I had him in front of me singing live a few centimeters from me, and I was trembling with emotion. It was something really incredible
All the press talked about that great concert, from the newspapers to Rolling Stone magazine that in days would give us 2 pages of interviews to talk about our single together.
4. How did you think the interest from the Erasure fans went,did you get a lot of feedback?
The response was incrediblely immediate, wonderful comments, people immediately endorsed it, people connected with the song and felt what Andy sang without imagining the story behind the song, as I already told above in the first questions
5. The two CD’s did very well,what country did you think showed the most interest & support?
The album was an immediate success in Germany, at that time I had some singles in the top sales on poponaut and that helped a lot for the album to have an immediate entry and position itself at number 1 in sales, then it was in the UK by Lexer music occupying number 1 in sales, then it reached number 1 in the USA in A Different drum and then in Spain. but the response to the song was global, to date I have many followers in Stockholm,Canada, Russia,UK and Spain, it also helped my career a lot when in 2004 I did a remix for the English band Placebo for their hit album “Once More With Feeling” with the song “This Picture (Isaac Junkie Remix)” and since then I have held my fans captive.
6. It’s now 10 years on from the original release,what made you want to do a new version?
First of all, it was that many people asked for "Breathing Love" records but there weren't any anymore, they sold out and I didn't release anything again, only part 1 and part 2 came out, people write to me every day asking when I would do something for the anniversary of the song, the video has a lot of impact and they always leave incredible comments, and it is definitely a song that people immediately made their own and that they have it in their playlists along with any Erasure and Andy solo songs.
7. What approach did you take for the new remixes,what were the ideas to bring something new?
It was a natural process, without pressure, thinking about what other sounds I would have liked the song to have had, what other forms I could give to the song. It was a great challenge because it is working on a song that many people love and that they made it their own, and that they had the commitment to give them something else to enjoy.
8. We had 6 versions of Breathing Love previously with a few extra tracks added,how many new remixes are on the new CD?
Well, there are some surprise things that I wanted to include in a previously unreleased form that came to me during the remix process, and great remixes of "Breathing Love"
9. What can we expect from the new release just Breathing Love or are there some new tracks or remixes of other Erasure tracks?
They will only be remixes of "Breathing love" and some unpublished surprises of mine for the cd
10. Do you have a message for your fans about any new Isaac Junkie material,what is the future for Isaac Junkie?
I have some surprises for the year. new collaborations with vocalists from the 80's that I'm working on in the studio, and that during the pandemic I had time to work on and that I didn't want to release until this year. My album of my 25-year career is also coming, which will include the most important collaborations I've had with vocalists from the 80s. artists like Andy Bell. Glenn Gregory from Heaven 17, Mike Score of A Flock OF seagulls,Claude S of Anything Box, Clive Farrington of When in Rome, Information Society's Paul Robb, Cutting Crew vocalist Nick Eede, Trans X's Pascal and many more the list is huge!!
