Re: Day Glo (Based on a True Story) (2022)(The Alternative Neon)
Now that I've given Day-Glo a few listens, I can give a hopefully more level-headed assessment. It's always exciting to get any new Erasure anything, and it always takes me a few days to soak it in and internalize it!
I think @moxxey was spot-on to describe it as a "Vince c-sides" album. I wish it was just LONGER. I mean, we have EPs that have more music than this 33-minute release. I guess my biggest complaint is that some songs deserve a bit more time to build and unfold, and I think on any album, you need some songs that are short and some that take a bit more time to enjoy. To force every song to be 3 minutes is just unfair!
I love that the music and sounds are at the forefront of Day-Glo. I have tried to be nice, but some of the lyrics on The Neon are some of Andy's worst - and I think it took that album down a few pegs. I'm always eager to hear more and more of Vince, so this release is something of a wish fulfilled for me. Vince has lately seemed to pull back his synths in recent Erasure releases. On Day-Glo, there's no avoiding and apologizing for it.
More please!
In fact, I'd love to see them rework every other previous album in such a way! Not "remixes" per se, but re-imaginings or alternate ideas with Andy supplying some vocals (re-recorded if desired), but also leaving them out more often than not.
I am waiting on my CD to arrive from Lexer, so I can't check the mastering. Listening on Apple for now. Favorite track (so far): Now

The album could’ve been longer I agree, but that’s down to them missing two songs off the track listing as Andy & Gareth made four tracks. (As mentioned in a past interview/zoom chat)

"...the album should also serve as a reminder to the rest of us that Bell and Clarke are still a creative force to be reckoned with, at their most garishly flamboyant or otherwise."
In 2022, Blitzed reviewed 'Day-Glo', an intriguing album offering from Erasure

Don't be too negative. What the reviewer has said is positive. Your average punter on the street has no clue Erasure is still producing music (even now, all you ever hear on the radio is A Little Respect, Blue Savannah, Sometimes and never anything after around 1991)! All he's saying is that the band still can produce innovative new stuff which will sit with the best of modern tracks.MikeyC wrote: Mon Dec 19, 2022 6:28 pm “Bell and Clarke are still a creative force to be reckoned with.”

I wasn’t being negative at all! I was just saying “um yes we know they’re still a creative force to be reckoned with!”moxxey wrote: Mon Dec 19, 2022 10:04 pmDon't be too negative.
