Do we all believe this is the real deal?

The quality of the file we have isn't the best but in my opinion it does sound like the kind of mix that Harding would do, also has some whispered lyrics about a husband or something a few times throughout which certainly sounds like Andy.

I guess we'll never know until/if it is ever confirmed by Erasure of Phil Harding himself.

If it is real I'd ask the question on why it wasn't included on the Chorus re-issue?

Any other views?

Just had a response, here it is:

So why it was rejected is another guess to me.

Very interesting! I was just coming to post that somone should try to contact Phil Harding about it! The mix certainly sounds like a "real" (ie, not a fan-made bootleg) remix... but surely someone would have heard of it before now, right?

There were certainly some unusual circumstances regarding LTHY as a single. We had Italian and Spanish versions, unusual exclusive promo-only mixes (Love vs Hate, JT Vanelli mixes, etc) and a US CD promo that is simply impossible to locate (which is unusual considering how popular Erasure were in the US at the time). This unreleased Phil Harding mix certainly fits into that scenario.

I still question the provenance of that acetate though. Maybe one day we'll get some official confirmation (and release!) of the track by Mute.

That's brilliant, seems it is genuine then!

Despite the dodgy sound quality of the mix, I prefer it to the Dakeyne mix which I've never really liked to be honest. This mix is more like a proper extended version. I guess the band has to make choices and made the wrong one this time!

Now somebody needs to contact Richard EIS and see if they can get it out of the vaults for us, wishful thinking as that is!

Those very same spoken words appeared as part of Mark Town's megamix on disc 2 of the 2003 'Hits' compilation, just before Love To Hate You transitions into Stop!

Whether that makes this remix seem more or less legitimate is hard to say!

The question is did Mark use them because they were nearly used in LTHY originally, or did someone sample them from Mark's megamix to 'fabricate' this Phil Harding mix?

Because the band and/or the record label didn't like it?

Or could be the extensive sampling of Yello's "Oh Yeah" at the end - they would have had to get clearance to use them (which costs money!). Although I'm sure it would have been easy enough to cut off and fade out.

Not necessarily! Phil Harding confirming he did a remix is not in itself confirmation that the mix we have heard is the same one!

@AaronLancs - I admit I'm a bit curious how you so easily found Phil Harding's email address?? I could see him being reached easily through Twitter or Facebook, but not email. However, I'm inclined to take you at your word...

@kwerty is right though, there is no guarantee this is Harding's mix. That seems unlikely, but not impossible. We need official confirmation from Mute.

I'm leaning to this mix being real, particularly because of the spoken lyrics (about the murdered second husband) and Yello samples. We know of many, many Chorus mixes that went unreleased (not to mention Stop! and Blue Savannah mixes years earlier) so it should be no surprise the same thing would happen with LTHY, their next single.

As to the mix itself, I really like it and I'm happy to have it, whoever did it!

Phil Harding has got his own website with some contact details as well as a contact form:

http://www.philharding.co.uk/contact

Although according to that, his email address is not the one seen in the above screenshot.

Well I did it through the Phil Harding website. More specifically the little contact form there.
