I make my own Erasure EBX playlists since the EBX sets always seem to miss some remixes. EBX6 was missing a few and I hadn't bothered looking at EBX7 closely to compare to my own playlists... and guess what I never realized before today? Rock Me Gently is not to be found in the official EBX series! It jumps straight from Fingers & Thumbs in EBX6 to In My Arms with EBX7. It's like Rock Me Gently as a single never existed. Friends, I can't allow this travesty!

I'm making my own "Complete EBX" playlists, to include RMG and other missing/promo mixes from that belong. Similar to the EBX+ tracks in UTTON that were so handy to fill in holes. I'll share the track listings shortly when I'm finished.

Rock Me Gently is not to be found in the official EBX series! It jumps straight from Fingers & Thumbs in EBX6 to In My Arms with EBX7. It's like Rock Me Gently as a single never existed. Friends, I can't allow this travesty!

Yeah I noticed that before too and thought its omission was curious.

The only thing I can think of is that the compilation is based purely on official UK releases. Unlike 'Rain' and 'Moon & The Sky', 'Rock Me Gently' was only available in the UK as an import (from the Czech Republic).

Actually, I CAN think of another reason: As 'Rock Me Gently' was ALREADY* (and is still) available as a digital download separately, they probably thought there was no need to include it in the EXB sets as well.

With that in mind, they maybe also decided that leaving it out would mean the 'I Say I say I Say' to 'Loveboat' period would fit neatly into two sets. If they'd included 'Rock Me Gently', 'Moon & The Sky' would have to have been left out. Why do that, when Rock Me Gently is available anyway.

...and I could also be crediting them with putting that much thought into it, and it's as I said above - it's UK releases only.

(At least I'm assuming it was available first. Year of release as shown on iTunes is often not accurate! Sometimes they use the date for the ORIGINAL release, other times they show they year it was released as a digital download. Consistent they aint).

Later I found out that RMG did get a UK CD single release (CD MUTE 180, I have it as well) but never understood (or cared much) what it meant towards UK single charts or whatever. I've always thought of it as Erasure's Little 15: not meant as a big UK single. but still a single nonetheless with b-sides and other tracks and part of the band's canon.
In digging around @kwerty I noticed that it is being sold as a digital single by Mute Cz again, so you're right about that! They still have it for sale and most casual Spotify listeners aren't going to want those 8+ minute mixes anyway.

There was no UK release. Are you sure it's not the German edition you have? Even though it's not a UK release, it still has the CD MUTE 180 catalogue number.

Imports DO chart - but only if they meet the eligibility requirements, which Rock Me Gently didn't. The Czech import running time would have been too long to be classed as a single for the UK charts (unlike DM's Little 15), as well as having too many tracks.

Yeah UK iTunes has it. According to Discogs, the digital version of the single was released 28th September 2018, so seven months before EBX7. It also includes the two extra tracks from the German edition.
