I know I’ve been quiet lately. The journey of a new musical is often slow, even stagnant. Sometimes I just don’t have the energy or faith to lead the fight. Or I lose sight of the love that folks who’ve seen OH LAMOUR in one form or another, have for the show. But I’m back. And OH LAMOUR will move forward. Thanks, as always, for the love and support you consistently show me and the show.

ERASURE: PEEP BEHIND THE SCENES AT 'OH L'AMOUR - THE ERASURE MUSICAL'
This is a story that, for me, dates back to Erasure's 'World Be Gone' show at The Roundhouse in London in 2017, which was the scene for a meeting between Andy Bell, Vince Clarke and a lovely man called Paul Lavoie who wanted to talk to the the band about an idea he'd had for an Erasure musical. A very early version of that musical was already well under way at that stage and in order to outline the project to Vince and Andy, Paul presented this video of a live read-through of the musical that he'd staged in Burbank, California in June 2016... Andy and Vince gave the project their blessing and it has been in development ever since. There will be more news on 'Oh L'Amour - The Musical' coming soon, but in the meantime, while we're all spending so much time at home looking for interesting diversions, Paul Lavoie came up with the very generous idea of putting that initial read-through video online for you to see. The video is here for your viewing and listening delight, but please note that this version is a very early draft of the show, with no staging or props (but with lots of singing!) and the final show may be quite different in places. Anyway, here's the video, make sure you have drinks and snacks to hand, and enjoy!
Despite the cliched plot points throughout, I had a smile from ear to ear while watching the entire piece. It’s obvious a lot of love, passion and enthusiasm has gone into the project and the song selection, which spans Erasure’s entire career, is surprising and exciting— and we know from a recent post and photo from the creators that it has been jiggered and expanded to even include selections from World Be Gone! I hope to see the show in its eventual, final form!!!

Our friend and Art Center professor Chesley Nassaney (www.chesley.la.) beautifully captured the many facets of love presented in the show - from the bursting jubilance of early romance to the thorny heart break.
