Vince co-writes with Olly Alexander on his new album Polari

Vince has co written the song ‘Make Me A Man’ from his new solo album ‘Polari’.

“Make Me a Man”
“I had a lot of fun with ‘Make Me a Man’. It’s a Vince Clarke [Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Erasure] production. We emailed him asking if he’d like to work on something, and he sent a track over and it was almost exactly how it ended up on the record. He was in New York, so we couldn’t meet up in person. I wrote it from the perspective of Adam in the Garden of Eden, asking God to provide a man for him to fall in love with. It’s such fun because you’ve got so many puns and double entendres. I was scared, thinking, ‘Can I even do this?’ but it’s one of those songs that just wrote itself.”

Interesting. It's quite a decent track, but not a massive fan of Olly's voice, but does make you wonder if this was one of Vince's tracks he'd created for Erasure (Vince said in 2023 he'd written a number of potential tracks for the new album), where Andy was going to just add the lyrics....much like Olly has done.

I wondered that as well. Also curious if this ‘sound’ will be present throughout the next Erasure album!

I get a feeling of A Little Respect(Victim of Love, Sometimes....) and Loveboat from the song, I sounds fresh and full of energy. I hope it will reflect in the new album.

Would be good. The other interesting thing I thought was where Olly said that Vince sent across the track and he added the lyrics....but the actual track didn't change at all from the original to final version. Which sort of means Vince left it close to finish as a track (without lyrics). Gives it more credence to it being a possible track he'd written for Andy to consider. Maybe Vince got bored waiting for Andy's feedback as I'm sure Andy said last year Vince had uploaded them for him but he hadn't gotten around to going through them.

Interesting - anyone else note the date stamp on the demo file Vince sent? Yep, March 2023! I expected it to have been a much more recent collaboration, more like second half of 2024. Still confused what happened to the (potential Erasure) tracks Vince said he'd written which started at the end of the last tour, which Vince said a couple of times he was waiting for Andy to give him his feedback.

It's genuinely a really nice demo track. Sounds like a modern Wonderland.
