DEPECHE MODE FACEBOOK PAGE-

We wanted to take a moment and acknowledge the outpouring of love for Andy that we’ve seen from all of you over the last few weeks. It’s incredible to see all of your photos, to read your words, and to see how much Andy meant to all of you. As you can imagine, it’s been a strange, sad, disorienting few weeks for us here, to say the least. But we’ve seen and felt all of your love and support, and we know that Andy’s family has too.

A couple weeks ago we received the result from the medical examiners, which Andy’s family asked us to share with you now. Andy suffered an aortic dissection while at home on May 26. So, even though it was far, far too soon, he passed naturally and without prolonged suffering.

We had a celebration of Andy’s life in London last week, which was a beautiful ceremony and gathering with a few tears, but filled with the great memories of who Andy was, stories of all of our times together, and some good laughs. Andy was celebrated in a room full of many of his friends and family, our immediate DM family, and so many people who have touched Andy’s and our lives throughout the years. All being together was a very special way to remember Andy and see him off.

So thank you for all of the love you’ve shown Andy and his family and friends over the last few weeks. It honestly means the world to all of us. Andy, you’ll be missed, but certainly not forgotten.

Love, Martin & Dave

Depeche Mode keyboard player Andy Fletcher left an astonishing £46 million in his will.

Fletcher, who died suddenly aged 60 in May 2022, was the business brain of the band he co-founded in 1980. Depeche Mode became hugely successful, selling 100 million records worldwide.

The group, which is still touring, has had 54 songs in the UK singles chart, and 17 top-ten albums. Their hits include Just Can’t Get Enough, which reached No 8 in the UK charts in 1981.

Fletcher, born in Nottingham, grew up in Basildon, Essex, where his father worked in a cigarette factory.

He gave up his job as an insurance clerk only when the band’s second single, New Life, reached No 11 and they appeared on Top Of The Pops.

Fletcher handled much of the band’s business, legal and non-musical interests, and kept tabs on the finances as Depeche Mode became one of the world’s biggest touring bands in the 1990s.

At one stage the keyboard player described the group as an ‘international corporation’.

Probate records reveal he left the bulk of his net estate of £46,801,903 to his wife of 29 years, Grainne, and children Megan and Joe.

Fletcher died from an aortic dissection at his home in St John’s Wood, north west London.

Depeche Mode said in a statement after his death: ‘We are shocked and filled with overwhelming sadness at the untimely passing of our dear friend, family member and bandmate Andy ‘Fletch’ Fletcher.

‘Fletch had a true heart of gold and was always there when you needed support, a lively conversation, a good laugh or a cold pint.’
