CD Coming Soon
With two successful albums and seven well received singles over the previous several years, the time was ripe for a Visage album compiling highlights from that accomplishment. Those who bought the cassette edition were in for a surprise to find not only a number of dance mixes not on the LP, but the album segued from one track into the next for a non-stop Visage experience. The popularity of this 'Special Dance Mix Album' led to a very limited vinyl pressing, which has since become a sought after collector's item. This rare edition album is now making its first ever CD appearance, remastered from original master tapes. Several bonus tracks have also been added, including the single and dub mixes of the top twenty hit Night Train, a 'Bonus Beats' mix of the 1982 single Pleasure Boys, and the rare B side Frequency 7 from the 1979 debut single Tar.

Visage / Visage CD (Expanded Edition)
Back to catalog
The very beginnings of the short lived New Romantic movement of the early 80’s can be traced back to one band, Visage. With a style built around flamboyant fashions and make up, New Romantic was a highly visual expression perfect for the new music video generation. Visage was a sort of super group, fronted by vocalist Steve Strange, famous for his antics of enforcing a strict door policy at the Blitz club. The musicians came from various bands, including Ultravox, Rich Kids and Magazine, bringing a wealth of collective talent to the project. The resulting 1980 self-titled debut album was an immediate hit, supported by several successful singles, including ‘Mind of a Toy’, ‘Visage’ and their trademark ‘Fade to Grey’. Strong dance beats, moody synthesizers, as well as an occasional squealing sax, were the backdrop to Strange’s unique vocal style. This long overdue expanded edition is remastered from original master tapes and includes for the first time all Polydor-related period material on one CD for a total of 17 tracks. The 8 page booklet includes liner notes written by author Steve Pafford layered over the colorful single picture sleeves.

STEVE STRANGE: LE PALAIS DE DANSE, 2CD EDITION
STEVE STRANGE
SFE
CAT No SFE121D
20th November 2026

• The last solo album from the legendary Steve Strange (Visage) finally released.

• A comprehensive 2CD set including selected extended, dance and single mixes.

• A deluxe celebration of the very best of Steve Strange’s final recordings made shortly before his untimely death in 2015.

With album notes from the programmer and producer of the project Steve Barnacle, and full lyrics in a 20-page booklet that boasts evocative artwork and photographs.

Pop culture icon Steve Strange was a founding father of the whole early 80s New Romantic movement having had a hand in the launch of the landmark clubs of the genre - Billy’s, The Blitz Club and Club For Heroes. The leading light of those pioneering nightclubs concurrently became, arguably, the most famous poster boy of the new wave synth-pop genre as the lead vocalist of Visage.

Towards the end of a flamboyant life in which he continued to dabble in both club promotion and music, including two further incarnations of Visage, Steve Strange was working on a number of new songs with co-writer Steve Barnacle, himself a member of several previous formations of Visage! Four of the songs here were included in alternative versions on later Visage records ('Seven Deadly Sins', 'Breathe Life', 'Welcome To The Digital Age' and 'Never Stop Dreaming'), but all of the songs on this all-new release are the versions intended for a planned solo album project ‘Le Palais De Danse’ which, with the dedication of Steve Barnacle, finally sees the light of day.

Highlights include ‘Insinuate’, a deft diatribe against the intrusive nature of the press, a sexy duet with Samantha Fox, ‘Dirty & Flirty’, and an oblique synth-pop tribute to Bowie in the title track alongside the gloriously sensuous out-and-out gay anthem ‘Boys’ (which was somewhat unusual for an avowed bisexual, Steve Strange).
