He may have owned the land at one point,I know Keith Moon of The Who had a house called Tara on this same land,but Vince had this house built for him.

Peter Collinson (film director) who directed the British Classic The Italian Job,built the original house called ‘Tara’.
Here he is with Noel Coward & Michael Caine.

Finally a photo of who are the new owners after buying the property from Vince.

Totally random bit of useless information I’ve just noticed about the above photo.
Keith’s daughter has an E Type Jaguar peddle car (with added roof) I also had one! Blatant self promotion!

Ammonite House designed by John Newton for Vince Clarke as featured in Discovery Channel Extreme Houses (Season 3, episode 6).

Quite a sad sight now seeing the Studio 37B is now a reading & cinema room.
But it does look like the sale also included most of the internal furniture & fittings as you can see in the photos in this thread and the new video that the dining table & chairs & the pool table are still there. Mainly down to the shape of the building I presume you couldn’t take away most of the fittings.

It's Musical History Was Quickly Erasured



Once a Victorian house in St Ann's Hill, Chertsey, Surrey, the original building on this plot was demolished in 1975 to create a bungalow called Tara with a roof consisting of five pyramids.

The owner, who died of a drug overdose in 1978, partied hard in it, once driving a car into the pond. One writer said: 'People would come to deliver a pizza or do a mural and be there for weeks.' It then passed to two more pop stars, the first was presumably Not In Love with it when he sold it to the next owner, who Erasured all trace of Tara to create a new home shaped like a snail shell made of glass and concrete.

Designed by the architect John Newton, there are spiral glass staircases, an indoor pool and a copper-roofed recording studio, plus 5.6 acres of land. Estate agent Oliver Clarke says: 'It is like Marmite, you either love it or you hate it.'

This most innovative and futuristic of builds was first owned by acclaimed musician and songwriter Vince Clarke, of Erasure and Depeche Mode fame.

Recently featuring on TV's Grand Designs, the extraordinary structure is fossil-shaped, inspired by ammonite, and built to capture the smallest and more eye-catching of details, such as the slightly-curved doors that blend into the overall curvature of the building.

During the Grand Designs feature Kevin makes special reference to Teksclusive's custom round design of light switch plate. (see below)

Ammonite House made use of previously unused technologies such as Privalite windows, which are windows that turn opaque at the touch of a button. Other features included an indoor pool, amphitheatre, and striking glass spiral staircase.

In technology terms, twenty-four years is a lifetime. Our challenge was to update the house’s lighting control. Due to the complex nature of the original installation, this was a gargantuan task.

We rose to the challenge, and completed 160 lighting circuits with new dimming controls, and 35 custom-made round light switch panels. To bring Ammonite House up-to-date with modern innovation, we also created an app so owners could manage everything on the move.
