Erasure4rum takes a trip into the all new remix album by SoftWave, taking the listener on a journey through the eyes of remixers chosen by the band from 10 years of collaborations & meetings on their journey.
This remix album includes tracks from SoftWave's award winning 2nd album "things we've done" remixed by 9 artists from around the world (Denmark, Scotland, Germany, Sweden, Greece, Hungary).
1. Wake Up (Cicero Remix)
This really takes me back to the 80's it just time travels you back to the time of big hair and even bigger shoulder pads, it just has that 80's synth pop DNA. You can just see them performing this on Top Of The Pops between Aha's Take On Me & Pet Shop Boys Heart (not surprising with the PSB connection)
2. This World (SoftWave Remix)
Jerry gets his hands on a remix of his own track here,it has a little toy music box sound that gives it a childlike innocence to the sound, which really goes the total opposite of the grown up adult theme of the lyrics, with the driving snare finish. Another favourite mix of mine.
3. Never Gonna Let You Down (Vainerz Remix)
This one gives me Depeche Mode vibes,i love the synth line sound that drives this mix along. The bouncing baseline also adds to the overall sound, one you can't stop nodding your head to.
4. Supernova (Aspra Remix)
This was my favourite track from the original albums stated in the Erasure4rum review (available to read still in the Erasure4rum Ask's & Other Features section),you should already be familiar with this new remixed version as it was the first single taken from Things We've Remixed. It starts off very moody with an atmospheric cinematic soundscape, before the vocals kick in with a minimal beat until the chorus when the beat stops, then the full beat kicks in. It still holds it original charm for me a great remix.
5. The Deepest Love (Antilles Remix)
This mix is really good,i love the bassline sounds on this one, it really carries the song along. The vocals really shine through in pristine clarity showing off Catrine's pure voice.
6. Through Open Eyes (Black Nail Cabaret Remix)
Black Nail Cabaret .... is that a clue to the overall sound of this remix?,it sounds very Goth-like to medal moody & menacing. I for one wouldn't want to be walking through a darkly lit graveyard late at night with this in my earphones. I think that sets the tone to the sound of this version. Its a refreshing palette cleanser between the happy poppy uplifting versions found elsewhere in this collection,a real curve ball but in a good way.
7. This World (Sacki Remix)
The second remixed version of this track on here, totally different take on the SoftWave remix this one has a very minimal backbeat with a lovely understated synth work over the beat, one thing this remix album shows is just how different takes of original versions really take you on a journey through different styles yet always bring new elements to hold your attention.
8. Through Open Eyes (Octolab Remix)
The second remix of this track on the collection, and this one has a totally different vibe & style from the Black Nail Cabaret version heard earlier, this one has a much softer sound and more poppy in approach. This version for me is very Erasure Chorus era in sound which can only be a good thing.
9. Thank You For Breaking My Heart (Diskodiktator Remix)
This remix stands out with its computer game sounding backing track, that seems to jump between styles as it flows along. A nice ending to the collection of varied remixes.
