I thought you were joking Mikey, but you weren't!! Holy crap. It really is Jason Statham in the RttS video! Sadly, having seen a few of his flicks, the Erasure video is probably the best thing he's ever done ;) Thanks for that cool bit of trivia.

RttS as a single got absolutely no traction here in the US (unlike Always), so it wasn't until years later with the Hits! DVD that I got to see most of Erasure's videos. I suppose I wasn't looking for anyone I recognize, or maybe I just didn't know who he was. His big break was Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels which came out in 1998, so he was just an aspiring model/actor then. I wonder what he thinks of the song??

I tell it (to me) like it is here on the Erasure4Rum! :D And I happen to really like Jason... just saw his recent summer flick "The Meg" this past weekend and it was fun!! He's also swoon-worthy!! 8-)

That's a sore point with me, as then and now, I felt RTTS should have been the lead single in the US. It would have charted better, and Always still could have ridden the coattails of it without real loss of chart placement. It was just clear Elektra was not going to invest in more radio promotion after Always didn't chart as high as hoped. Sire just had more balls to mix up the release schedule and not consider what they couldn't push successfully.

He seems like a good guy and certainly a handsome devil. My wife definitely agrees with you there, and that's how I know his name. She loves his movies.

That's an interesting thought experiment, but I don't know that I 100% agree. I think Always was responsible for I Say being as successful as it was. Aside from a small bump from Breathe years later, Always was the last time Erasure got any real airplay in the US. I heard the original and the Microbots Trance Dance Mix a lot on the radio at the time. I met people (casual fans) who had the album because of that song. Always did a lot of good for the band. I can't help but wonder if RttS would have caused Stay-With-Me syndrome one album early if it had been released as the lead single.

That said, I'm at a loss why RttS didn't do very well here. It's a great song.

Firstly, Maverick invested fairly heavily in In My Arms, and it got good rotation on top 40 in major markets. That said...

I agree about ISISIS benefiting from Always sales, but that's generally what singles are meant to do (well, before iTunes). Again, I still think all of that would have still happened had RTTS been released first. In fact, it's one of the bigger avoidable errors I'm certain of with Erasure releases in the USA.

A bigger one is Stay With Me over Fingers & Thumbs, but that's another story...and thread. ;)

This may seem superficial, but it feels that the 'sounds'/arrangement of RTTS just didn't fit in with U.S. radio at the time, even more so than with Always. Wasn't radio so invested in 'grunge' at that point? Sure there were still pop tracks being played and charting but RTTS just seems so "European" and synthy for the time. Anyway, I'm glad Always was the lead single and got the attention it did. x 8-)
