At last! The full-length X Dub Cut of 'Always' finally gets a digital release! It's what everyone has been waiting for.

A statement I never thought I’d see.
Thankfully it’s the last track,we can skip.

Joking aside, I am glad the full-length X Dub mix is there (I don't dislike it as much as some), and it is one of the few mixes that hasn't already had a digital re-release. Especially glad to see the digital release of the Diss-Cuss* and Intergalactic mix here like I hoped/suspected they would be, although the inclusion of the Cappella Club Remix EDIT of Always is a bit of a surprise.

Overall though it's pretty much what I expected of it - just a two disc affair, what with there being no live concert from the time to include, and the BBC radio sessions and Jools Holland performances are present and correct like I thought they would be, as are the Jools Holland performances (although we already had the latter in video form on the Total Pop Deluxe DVD. I guess now though they also end-up available for download too - that seems to be how this all works).

I notice though that there is a break in the format with this release - b-sides that were not already on an original CD have been added to Disc 1 for the first time around. I'm fine with that if it means putting more onto Disc 2. (Although the remasters have always been a little inconsistent on how they are compiled anyway).

I'm looking forward to hearing the grand total of two new remixes. No doubt both will end up on YouTube well before the CD is dispatched.

No sign of Vince's mix of Blues Away though (Edit: like I notice @Pughie has mentioned) - I guess that's going to be another Record Store Day thing like his Blue Savannah remix we thought was going to be part of the Wild! remaster.

*EDIT Somehow I missed that the Diss-Cuss mix was on the track list and originally posted lamenting its omission. But it is there after all! Yay!

Something just occurred to me and I had a thought about the Blues Away remix...

Every time they release one of these remasters, I think "Ooh! Maybe they'll release a track as a single/EP like they did with The Innocents and the Phantom Bride EP." Of course they never do.

I guess I must have become resigned to the idea of it never happening again so didn't even think about it this time. But then I suddenly remembered that, just like The Innocents, ISISIS has that 'mythical' fourth single that we never saw. So now I'm wondering again if such a thing could be on the cards, and that's where we will get to hear VC's Blues Away remix! (and I've probably just jinxed it by remembering).

Well, Mike Cosford himself confirmed the fourth single was indeed to be Blues Away, and that the winter art was for it.

Yet, it need not be fulfillment of destiny that we get Blues Away as a single. Paul Khera confirmed Innocents panel #4 art was from Hallowed Ground single art he'd been commissioned for, and not Phantom Bride. Still, we saner folks knew what had to be...even though it took years.

I do hope that if ISISIS Deluxe gets a single, that Mike's original work will be released, or that he's been called in to finalize it.

I said there are two new remixes on this remaster - but someone on the Facebook questioned me on that and wondered if they are just previously unreleased mixes, and I wonder if they are right. There is no mention of them being 'new'. just 'previously unreleased'.

If so, it makes me curious then what the Choral Mix of So The Story Goes was for. From the name, I'm pondering if it could just be a simple, stripped back acapella version - just Andy's vocals with the choir. Getting shivers down my spine just imagining it!

Okay, I am saying it. The remasters have been alright, I think a proper remix would have been a better option, very close to the originals, but with a bit more oomph. Chorus was still lacking in sound quality, still a bit flat. Of the extra tracks only a few really were exciting. Lets move on to Atmos mixes for the next lot
