RSD was only Saturday how did they expect to round up unsold copies for sale at 5pm today?

Where have you heard that Lexer are rounding up unsold copies? Has Richard actually said that or is it just an assumption we've made as fans?

As most of the stores are still selling unsold records from the previous 'drop' in August, I'm not convinced participating stores are under any obligation to return unsold copies once the day is over. If there are any left, I suspect those are theirs to keep in store and sell.

I could be wrong, but if that's the case, then my guess is that Lexer are getting stock from a stash that never even got to the record stores and so are not relying on record stores returning their copies by Monday.

I was lucky enough to get a copy, but it has not arrived yet, and secondly my new turntable has not even been dispatched yet. So I am also hoping to hear it as soon as possible, it is driving me insane not being able to listen to it.

Record Store Day rules forbid me to promise that stock will make it into the Official Erasure Shop at Lexer Music, so let me instead suggest that you head over to Lexer Music from 5pm (UK) on Monday (September 28th) if you're still looking for a copy... I hope you can hear what I'm not quite saying?

Hello Everyone,

It seems unlikely that I will get an update tonight on when the RSD Blue Savannah single will be available, but in the interests of keeping the opportunity equal I’m going to ensure that when they DO go on sale (and it’s a question of when, not a question of if) then we will give everyone at least 24 hours notice so that you can make all the arrangements to be available at that time. I hope that helps a little.

well that sucks.... I had the opportunity to buy it a couple of times, and decided to wait for Lexer...

Richard EIS is saying it's a question of WHEN not IF Lexer will get copies for sale, so that opportunity should still be arriving.

He says in an update of Facebook:

Sure -and he doesn't say anything about rounding up "unsold" copies - he was just hinting Lexer will have some, which isn't the same thing. Saying they will be 'rounding up unsold copies' suggests that any copies record stores have left will be sent back to the record company, and I'm not convinced that is what's happening. Most stores have probably sold out anyway, but if they do have any left my thinking is they can keep those to sell in their store.

Of course, you could argue that the Record Store Day warehouse has some left that never made it to stores in the first place and call those 'unsold' copies, and it's probably those I suspect Lexer are waiting on. NOT any copies the record stores didn't sell!

Anyway, it's just a pedantic point, and the upshot is that one way or another Lexer should be getting some in stock (and I never meant to suggest that I don't think Lexer will ever be getting any)

Funny, I thought I had read that, too, about rounding up the unsold copies. Maybe just thinking that because that was what had been done in the past.

The markups on these releases is a little steep, I find. As much (or more) for a 12" as compared to a full LP.

Yeah, I've seen people say it, but I've not seen it said from the horse's mouth as they say.

But I don't really know one way or the other - maybe record stores do send excess stock back, or maybe they don't. Or maybe they can choose.

All I do know is that participating stores are still selling left-over stock of RSD vinyl from the last 'drop' in August in their shops and online, which suggests to me they don't send them back. I presume the independent stores have to pay for what they stock, so are under no obligation to return what they don't sell on the day. But maybe it's an option for them and they get their money back if they do? I don't know. But if you know it's a desirable item and know you can sell it then why would you?!

My own guess of what perhaps happens (and it is just a guess - nothing more! I have no insider knowledge!) is that there ends up being a stash of excess stock that never gets to the record stores, and it's this that Lexer is waiting for/has reserved.

What I don't think is happening is that Lexer was waiting to 'round up' all the leftovers from around the world and hoping to get them on sale online just two days after the event!

This ‘rounding up’ of unsold copies was done before with the yellow Two Ring Circus RSD release,Lexer ended up with around 80 copies!,all of which sold out very quickly.
