Like I said in the other thread, this jives with what Vince had imparted at the Reed & Caroline gig...at least in regards to the US.

If Vince was suggesting the first single is due next May(ish!), then I'd assume the album will be out Summer. Ok, a bit of a delay between new album and concert, but I guess it's only 6 months?

It just seems so far away. The Robbie tour is just a few weeks and then maybe the will hopefully do some promotions for the album. But next year seems like a long time away and I haven't even gone through 2017

Vince is a family man. He's not going to miss being a Dad in the formative years if he can help it.

Really, as much as I want more touring, and a better kind, he made it clear he's making compromises so he can have that time. I don't blame him one bit...just his son. ;)

That's exciting for our UK members!! Whoo hooo!

So I just listened to the hour and 13 minutes of the holiday wishes and Questions and Answers... and they gave great answers to almost every question (Vince is TOO funny!) but of course to my question, Vince answered "I really can't remember. Sorry."   ;D ;D ;D

Just wondering what venues the 3 pre-Robbie gigs will be?
Are we thinking 3 nights at one venue or, hopefully, 3 different venues.
Any guesses where?
I'll take a stab at London, Nottingham and Edinburgh!
Oh, and a very happy Christmas to everyone on the forum! :)

I also find it amazing that in 2016, Mute Records did not record this tour in any format. I would of been happy with just an AUDIO recording.

Its totally baffling and wasted opportunity and its something fans WANT :-/
Posted by: glazball, December 28, 2016, 6:59pm; Reply: 27
Yes it is pretty upsetting.  I'd also love to have even the audio.  Sadly, I didn't get to see the VF show in person as we were closing on our house at the time and had no extra time or money.  I did get to watch it on Yahoo! which was a pretty wonderful treat though.

Is it possible Mute could license it from Yahoo!?  Or worst case scenario, did anyone happen to record it just for personal viewing/listening?
Posted by: Tin Soldier, December 28, 2016, 8:41pm; Reply: 28
Someone here had/has a HQ rip of that show, but pulled it before I could d/l it. :(

I do have some other rips of it. Have to look, but I think they were a tad choppy (That HQ rip was several GBs big, I think). I had planned on popping one of them into audition and breaking it down to mp3's, but just didn't get around to it. I was also planning that for the 551 rips. If I do it, I'll try to mention it somewhere.

Really, I still have lots of "Erasure tasks" yet on my list (browser themes, PDF'ing some Sire docs, custom items I want to order, mailing an old jar of peanut butter signed by Andy etc, etc). Hope I find the time for all these.  8)

That's what I found a bit odd when Vince effectively nixed the possibility of a TVF tour audio release in one of those FMTM preview interview videos the EIS and Pledge shared in the build-up - saying they had looked into including a recording of a TVF show for the box but that 'recordings were by 3rd party companies and the sound recording quality was
'crap', cos to my ears the Yahoo streamed show didn't sound bad at all?
Posted by: Danger, January 6, 2017, 9:18pm; Reply: 33
According to EIS newsletter, the new show will tour USA, UK, Europe and South America. I'll be not surprised if they will tour in 2018 after album and Robbie's tour in 2017 (plus the warm-up gigs).

I'm curious - what are the four extra tracks from?  Same show, unused in the broadcast?  That version of Voulez Vous is awesome.

"Voulez Vous" was performed during the final two shows of the tour in NYC -- including New Year's Eve!

With that in mind, the recording of "Voulez Vous" presented here is obviously from the latter of the two NY concerts - Andy makes reference to having performed it the night before so it must be.

The other three bonus tracks in this collection were also performed at this concert, so if I was to make an educated guess, I'd say those were also recorded at this show.

Which also probably explains why "Gaudete" is the only song from the various versions of the setlists NOT represented in this collection, as it wasn't performed on that final show (despite being performed the night before).

Disappointed they are playing Manchester and London for the warm up show's, as they are already playing at these cities a few weeks later
on the Robbie Tour,  they should have chosen elsewhere and given other fans a chance to see them, im from Newcastle and Erasure
have a big fan base up here, I've got tickets for the Robbie gig in Manchester but would have gladly sold that ticket had they announced
a show in the north east :o

Just had the following email from Richard:

As promised last week, here is a bonus newsletter containing dates for the first leg of Erasure's 2018 'World Be Gone' tour. Here are the dates for the initial run of shows in Ireland, the UK and Germany. Pre-sale for all these shows will start at 10am (UK) this Wednesday (May 31st) and there will be a FAQ dealing with all the usual questions on the Erasure website sometime tomorrow when all the venues have confirmed details of their pre-sale plans.
I completely understand that, having checked this list of shows, a lot of you will be asking if there are more shows to be added, in these countries AND elsewhere in the world. The answer to that is a resounding YES. There is every chance that there will be one or two more shows added to the first leg of dates below, and there will be a LOT more shows elsewhere in the world later next year. As usual that's all I can tell you at the moment, not because I'm teasing you or being mysterious, but because those details are not quite done and dusted and ready to announce! :-)
Having had the privilege of seeing the first 'World Be Gone' concert in Glasgow on Saturday night, and having received amazing feedback in response to last night's show in Manchester, I can, hand on heart, tell you that this is already shaping up to be a very special tour indeed. Thank you also to everyone who came to say hello to me at the show on Saturday when I was stamping 'From Moscow To Mars' passports, I look forward to meeting more of you in the same way in London tonight.
As mentioned above, the FAQ PAGE page for the pre-sale will be going live sometime tomorrow (Tuesday 30th) as soon as we've dotted all the final i's and crossed all the last minute t's. Thank you for your patience!

More dates and countries to follow, and Richard says in today's newsletter that there may be extra dates to be added for some of the UK venues (I notice a few 'spare' days after the London Apollo show, for example... half-tempted to hang out and see if they add Saturday 24th?)

Some of these venues are quite small, and I think will sell out fast. If I'm not mistaken, I think the O2 Academy in Birmingham is the old Sanctuary, where the 2nd EIS Christmas show was held, waaaaaaaay back in 2002. Either that or it's next door to it on Digbeth High Street. It's a club-sized venue really, so I wouldn't be surprised if they do add an extra date for Birmingham.

Also, does anyone know (it's been a long time since I've lived there!) if Guildford's 'G-Live' venue is the old Civic Hall rebranded?
Posted by: mr first, May 29, 2017, 10:14am; Reply: 62
The o2 isn't the old sanctuary I've been a couple of times to see other bands it holds about 3000 there's lots of standing room and seats above like a horseshoe shape, also great to see them playing Hammersmith again

Argh. That's still heartbreaking. I'll have to brave another winter before seeing them in the US?! ??) I'm not sure I can make it after watching all these vids from the last couple days.

Some tour company ought to arrange a "Erasure refugee" package for Europe. Richard would be able to stamp our actual passports.  ;D

I think the long break might be a contractual obligation so that people buy tickets for the Robbie Williams concerts and don't just wait for the Erasure concerts.

Another not so satisfying pre-sale, there were no standing tickets for Cardiff available, forked out just under £200 for 2 tickets in row D.
The Cardiff pre-sale is going a bit mad at the moment, sometimes it shows as nothing available and sometimes the cheaper tickets are available.

was at Manchester Albert Hall, amazing night with great audience (apart from a few women doing the usual chat..............grrrrrrrr) New album sounds amazing live.

Just got tickets for Newcastle February, cant wait. Going to see them at Southampton (with that Robbie bloke as support.......lol)

btw any one going to Newcastle City Hall, after September 2017 they are changing the seating with more seats down the sides for the disabled. So be aware if you get tickets in front of them you are likely to be told to sit down. If in the aisle usually can move to side and dance there, they don't usually tell us to get out of the aisle,

I shall be at the 02 Birmingham,if anyone hasn't been to the 02 it's quite a big venue and if you get there early there is free street parking close to but if not there is a car park opposite side of the duel carriageway

I noticed there were no 'standing' tickets available for Cardiff. I checked other bands and standing never seems to be an option, have they limited the size of St. David's Hall for pop/rock events or am I missing something?

I don't think 'cos the venues are more or less of the same capacity than in the past, the only really bigger in this Danish Arena

I honestly think they will adjust their stage for smaller venues in the 5000 and under capacity. That is what they play to in th US, which I think is planned for 2018

I have a feeling that the stage will be very minimalistic, a bit like the warm up gigs before that Robbie tour. It looked good and it did the trick. Some of the venues on the tour are pretty small.

It will be interesting to see what the stage will be like because in fact compared to recent tours erasure will be playing a few bigger venues such as Hammersmith,Birmingham academy and the arena in Copenhagen, also they will be playing south America later on in the year and generally they are quite big venues of around 7 to 10 thousand

On the other end of the spectrum we have places like the Capitol in Hannover which has a capacity of 1600 max. And I thought the minimalistic attempt of the warm up gig would work for most sizes, they just need enough smoke and mirror balls to brighten up bigger spaces. Unfortunately we will never again get a Phantasmagorical Entertainment or Cowboy tour, but I was more than happy with the European leg of the Tiny Tour which had not much of a stage set at all.

Small gigs are better anyway,I mean the Milton Keynes bowl and the NEC gigs were brilliant in there heyday but unfortunately concerts have become like premiership football with overpriced tickets and stupid corporate ideas like the golden circle,I'd rather have a small gigs better atmosphere I know there was an isolated scuffle at the roundhouse concert this year but your always going to get the odd dickhead who can't take his ale
Posted by: Pat.2000, October 1, 2017, 1:57pm; Reply: 117
I agree. The Tiny tour sound was excellent at Ilford Island.

Roundhouse in 2011 would have been great but the high up cheap seats meant we heard mostly echo vocals and midrange with not much bass. I tried sweet talking the young girl on the door to the floor standing but she must have heard it a thousand times, and she wasn't allowed to drink a can of Redstripe (4 quid) while on duty.

So I drank both cans and settled in at the top tier.

Hmmm...I actually like Terminal 5 better. Irving is fine, but too small. Maybe Beacon Theatre will also be a choice.

Frankly, spreading the gigs out is fine by me. I'd love to see them at Brooklyn Steel as well as the others.

If they can do RC, then they could do Jones Beach (depending on when the dates will be), and I would love to see them there as well. Hell, they could do Cylones Stadium like Sting/Peter Gabriel as well.

Now, now, easy, one can easily get carried away  :P

I don't think they can fill out a stadium and im very reluctant about Jones Beach too.. those longislanders....

Well, Jones Beach Amphitheater holds 15,000. Perhaps an issue there without a name opener, I'll grant you. ;)

But, don't be fooled by "Stadium" when it comes to the Cyclones, as MCU Park only holds 7,000. Truly, that would be a great gig that's relatively easy to fill if they can fill RCMH here.

Yes!  So love that we had a hand in the announcement!

As for venues, would love to see them at Brooklyn Steel.  Terminal 5 is fine, but have seen them a few times there now.  I liked Irving because it was so intimate and had fine memories of the Erasure Show Tour.  Whatever they decide I hope they play smaller venues and do multiple nights.  Selfishly, I need to get my fill!  Also, I hope they don't cut the setlist too short.  Last tour they played 20-21 songs.  Would love to see it back in the 25 range.

And then off back home to Hannover where I will meet up with my brother and two sisters to see them there. Have been with all my siblings before but never before all of us together at the same gig. I used to live in easy walking distance to the venue there, moved to Bristol from there about 20 years ago, I am sure this is going to be somewhat emotional.

This would have been a good occasion as it is a very intimate venue, which is in a more alternative quarter of the city.
If ever you go, drop me a line, as it is a more modern city it is not a big tourist destination, but has plenty of things to see and explore.

Morning Everyone,

Just to let you know that over the next day or so we are releasing a few tickets back into the sale pot for some of the UK dates. These are tickets that were on hold for the band (for their guests, for media people, for the record label etc) but which won't be needed, so there are only likely to be a few, and not for all shows, but do check with the venues if you're desperate... :-)

Good Luck!

He said if no tickets he'll still meet up for the usual pre gig beer at the "Stage Door" pub! 😁

Beacon theatre has the same capacity as Terminal 5, about 3,000 . And they played at Terminal 5 in their last 2 tours. Beacon theatre is definitely nicer and the architecture is more classy .

I really thought they would multiple nights in the same city.

As for Boston, I'm very happy they are doing House of Blues again , I really love that venue.

I'm glad there is a presale.  I guess Richard will be providing details in the Monday newsletter.  I hope the ticket limit isn't capped at 4.  Was hoping to purchase 8 tickets.

All the more reason I think they will add a 2nd date in NYC.  It is nice to see them play this venue again.  The last time may have been True Colors tour and then OPS before that.  I wonder if they will have a bit more spectacle this time around.  It is a rather big stage.  Are the venues this time around in North America more theaters this time around as opposed to general admission venues?

I, too, would not be at all surprised if they add another NYC date... likely the night before the advertised one since the advertised one is a Sunday which is a bit odd. Ok maybe not odd but a Friday or Saturday would also be fabulous!!  8)

Don't forget that your Order Number from either Lexer or Pledge for the 'World Beyond' items also serves as your tour presale code! (According to today's newsletterand the information on Lexer and Pledge!)

I think is very unfair to force people into buying the new album in order to receive the code for the pre-sale. After listening bits of the re-interpreted songs I can say it's not my cup of tea.
If this album was an original, completely new one, yes I would have purchased it.
Again, Mute records trying to squeeze out as much money as possible from real fans. Shame on them.

Just got the bonus newsletter from Richard, and he makes sure to emphasize that UK and European gigs will have FMTM Passport stamping - almost as if he can't bring himself to say hard cheese to the yanks.

Why must my passport remain a virgin?

That's a little harsh.

We know purchase-related ticket pre-sales are the standard now, whether we like it or not, and the concept of the album is sound. I think it's more accessible that Union Street in arrangement, really (though I find a septet a bit thin compared to the fuller sounding orchestration of the Poppy days).

I can't fault the label at all here, and applaud this effort; not to mention the successful secrecy surrounding it. It comes across as a labor of love, and with fans in mind, far more than a cash grab.

I have no problem purchasing World Beyond either, since I've always loved non-electric reinterpretations of Erasure's songs.

HOWEVER, I'm not interested in hearing them live since I want to hear electronic music from Vince and Andy if I'm paying big bucks to see them live again.  Union Street tour was enough for me, tyvm.  Do we expect these orchestral versions to be performed on tour?

Hmm, not much breathing room for added shows. Easier to do 12th-14th if adding shows in NY than the 16th, but it would be odd to add them before.

I'm such an optimist here thinking I could have more. :)

I was trying to get 8 tickets and they sold so quickly in NYC.  Couldn't get them.  Am going to have to go to a reseller now....

Tin, how did you do?
Posted by: Tin Soldier, January 23, 2018, 3:16pm; Reply: 189
I literally just checked my blood pressure, and I'm trying to meditate while typing now.

Got BB in Orch1! Orch1??? I know, I know, but I thought I'd get OrchCenter at least. I'm skipping salt for the next few days.
Posted by: Tin Soldier, January 23, 2018, 3:27pm; Reply: 190
Just saw ORCH (Center) Row J pop up at $109.50 face. $99.50 is a memory now.

EDIT: Saw ORCH Row U at $89.50

These could be sole seats. Hard to say. It's like playing Battleship to know how many you can get in a row.

EDIT2: Yeah, not seeing anything now for 2+. All single seats.

Our personal frustrations aside, isn't this encouraging? Think it will sell 100%? I wonder if they could squeeze another in before...

I did Orch AA at Beacon during the OPS tour.  They were great seats.  I was resting my elbows on the stage, not too much neck craning necessary.

I'm down for a meetup.  I've got plenty of time these days.

Does anyone know if there are going to be General Admission tickets for the San Francisco show at the Masonic (August 19)?

It seems the presale only offers certain sections of tickets for sale (Floor 1-7, Balcony 1-12), but the seating chart shows there are also three sections right up front (Floor A-C).  I'd prefer general admission tickets, but don't want to lose the chance to choose good tickets if there aren't going to be any GA tickets offered.  I can't seem to find any details on Ticketmaster or on the Masonic's website.

Any info would be great...thanks!

Congrats! Well, I had an unusually chaotic work day so I couldn't focus on ordering tickets until around 1pm but luckily I got two seats together -- center orch. but around 20 rows back. I'm ok with that! Hope to see you all there!  8)

So the pre-sale was for all the seats in the theater? I thought it was only for a limited number.

Seeing how quickly they sold out ny  makes me think they could have easily played at Madison square garden with a full house.

If the second date sells as fast, they might feel some regret. Playing MSG, even not to a full house, is a status symbol that could've helped them further.

See it. No presale, so we will be fighting the peasants for tickets to this one. Wonderful.

What the hell am I talking about? I don't really know where the money's coming from, do I? What if it sells out too? My mind is racing here if they add even more.

July 15th - Price makes me swallow hard, but I know I can handle it.
July 14th - Reaching into savings, and saying bye-bye to beer for a bit.
July 13th - Calling relatives I said I never speak to again for loans.
July 12th - Plotting a bank robbery.
July 11th - Committing a bank robbery.

I haven't even gotten to the merchandise yet. I need to sit and breathe for awhile...then buy a pair of stockings.

That makes me the ultimate sucker then! I figure I’d have to pay these prices (if not higher) to a scalper anyway which is why I took the plunge. Plus now I don’t have to worry about going through the whole refresh song and dance tomorrow morning in the slim hope of getting really good seats.

Due to overwhelming demand for concert tickets in New York City and Los Angeles, Erasure have added two extra dates to their World Be Gone Tour. Those shows will take place at NYC’s Beacon Theater on July 14th and LA’s The Wiltern on August 25th and both shows are onsale now (if you access the pre-sale via the Live Nation option the password is ACCESS).

Truly, who will be standing, at least in Orchestra, at the Beacon???

IIRC, for OPS, front row folks even left their seats and leant on the stage like the barrier at Terminal 5, Irving Plaza, etc. So, twice as many shows at one of those wouldn't have been so bad an idea.

Last I looked, the added date might be sold out by Monday, or at least next week. I may have tempted fate by joking about more dates. ??)  ;)

You know, I was thinking the opposite. Those tickets were far more reasonably priced than these for being general admission, and those of us in Orchestra are going to have the same type of experience this time around.

Break out the calculator, and figure it out; especially if it sells out and Thursday or Wednesday is added. We'd be getting more value for money were it Terminal 5 or Irving Plaza.

It's the cost of the seat which is really killing us.

*sigh* Yes, you did let us know that. ;)

I loved the album, and see why Vince signed them. I'd love to have two openers with Rod (and maybe even Alka), but I'm very pleased to have R&C.

Really Mike, just think Cooler Kids or Elkland and realize how lucky we are to have a true synthpop band opening (actually liked Elkland, but not a true synthpop band - more Future Islands-y).

Agreed. Despite the standing for hours and getting smooshed like sardines, I'd rather have the show be General Admission! And the rows are so narrow at The Beacon, it's hard to dance at your seat!

I loved Elkland and still listen to their album! Didn't they morph into a more acoustic band, The Drums?

Also, not giving much away, but once in a while I see one of the band members on a gay meet-up phone app!  *shhhhh*

I preordered album and used my 8 slots to buy tickets during pre-sale.  Just realizing the presale that starts in 14 mins is only for album pre-sales.  Anyone willing to share their presale code so I can purchase two tickets?  My sits are rather crappy the two other nights.

I'm truly sorry. I have two codes, and didn't max out either for 8 tix. Had to go offline but for TM, so didn't see your post. :(

Ugh. First time ever, got a seat, went to cart, and got a SERVER-SIDE error. That is NOT supposed to happen.

Of course, I lost that BB seat.  ??)

I think orchestra really got trounced today more quickly than days past. Tried for several seats this time, and still had to split seating!

No worries Tin.  I should have been more prepared and sent a note earlier.  Completely my fault.  I had thought I could use a Citi presale code, but saw this isn't open until later unfortunately.  I will likely have to go reseller route as I'd really like a seat for NYC in row AA-DD center.  On the off chance if anyone here has a suitable seat let me know.  Happy to pay a premium.

Sounds like you have more blood to sell than I. ;)

Same here on wanting AA/BB center. Had BB tix in my cart with a good countdown, and still had a server-side error. It might have happened to you had you been there. Sounds like skippy had issues as well.

The gods are fickle today, and I have made so many sacrifices too (more blood).

I happen to love the Reed & Caroline album and this is the first time in a LONG time that I've been truly excited to see an opening act (for any show, not just Erasure).

I picked up my tix this morning for the 2nd Austin show.  I was happy to see they added a 2nd night, but found out after my purchase that my cousin bought tix for the first night.  D'oh!

Reed, Caroline, Vince and Andy - see you in August!!

Blood and other bodily fluids at this point.  Had to go to a reseller for row A center orch.  They better not add a 4th show!

Taking a look at Beacon availability just now, it doesn't look as likely that we'll get 7/12 or 7/11 added on, as 40%+ still looks unsold. I think the others were less than 20% unsold by same time. This may still sell out, but whether Thursday is added at some point is debatable; forget about Wednesday.

The rescheduled dublin gig on March 13 has disappeared off the website now

I’m getting the idea that the 13t may well be moved to a date when they can get all three gigs in a row as the logistics of keep going backwards and forwards to Ireland may well be quite expensive. I’ve just looked at Olympia website and March 13th is a line date there is something on 14th.

I just happened to be on Facebook and a big fan who’s at the show right now posted some live footage and it was “Sacred”which sounded amazing!

Oh and the stage did look, in fact, like Vince’s drawing from the other day!

Also: “In My Arms” has returned. And “Sweet Summer Loving”.

“Phantom Bride”
Blondie’s “Atomic”

Loved the gig on Saturday in Edinburgh, you could tell Andy was recovering as he was a bit croaky in parts, but he did ask the crowd to help with the high notes, which we dually did. Biggest surprise to me was I Love Saturday, one of my least favourite tracks but this was a really good version live. Have to mention the support act, Bright Light Bright Light, not really listened to anything of his, but he's really good and very enthusiastic about being on tour with his idols. After the gig he was manning the merchandise stall, so daughter bought a cd and got a wee message to her from him, very good touch, he's now got a new fan in her.

EIS update new Dublin dates

Following the unfortunate postponement of last week's trio of sold out Erasure shows in Dublin, we are pleased to finally confirm that the rescheduled shows will take place at the same venue, Dublin's Olympia Theatre, on March 13th, 14th and 15th this year.

Thank you so much for your patience while we got this all sorted out, it proved a much more challenging exercise than anyone expected, but we are delighted to get this second chance to play to you as part of this year's tour, and we hope to see as many of you as possible at the rescheduled shows.

To be clear, the show that was originally scheduled to take place on January 29th 2018 will now happen on March 13th, the January 30th show is rescheduled to March 14th, and the January 31st show will take place on March 15th. Tickets for last week's postponed concerts will remain valid for the new dates.

If the new dates do not work for you then refunds on your existing tickets will be available from point of purchase.

Rod is regularly posting Twitter photos he takes of the crowd at gigs, and I found this one to feature some familiar faces...and my scarf. Dammit, that man has my Innocents scarf. :)

Overall, you folks are paying quite a bit less than some others (seats vs. standing). Me, I'd sooner not have the seat since folks tend to stand in orchestra anyhow.

I thought the photo was funny, especially since we are all die hard fans here and it was not intended to be disrespectful. It's no secret, Andy does look a little bit unfit and a tight top ....oh well.

The pricing of the tickets seems to be a bit weird. I paid £ 60 per ticket for Cardiff, but only £
39 per ticket in Hannover. What did other members pay for their tickets? ( I used xe.com to convert into £)
That is my reason for not pre-ordering any t-shirt for that gig, it costs £
25 pre-ordered, but it may well cost 25 euros so I will wait and see.

Think I only paid £40 per person at Birmingham

ARAGUAY SHOW CANCELLED

MAY 4th

Erasure have today announced that, with great regret, they are no longer able to play their planned show at the Centro De Eventos Paseo La Galeria in Asuncion, Paraguay on May 8th.

The cancellation was not a decision that was taken lightly, and comes as the result of a number of events beyond the band’s control.

Andy Bell and Vince Clarke would like to sincerely apologise to all the fans affected and hope to be back in Paraguay as soon as possible.

Full refunds will be available from the offices of G5pro in Paseo Carmelitas between 10am and 5pm between May 7th and May 25th.

They played Hard Rock Cafe in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic the other day, 29th.

That might make up some lost revenue after the Paraguay cancellation

Setlist was the same, posted it in the spoilers/setlist thread

I think Vince was subconsciously criticizing the size of the medal he received.  ;)

The night is finally here for me!  Going to see Erasure for the first time since 2011 and I'm incredibly excited!  I have been avoiding spoilers and all I know is that the setlist includes (or included) Phantom Bride through the EIS mailing list.  And of course they will do LYTTS from WBG, but other than that, I know absolutely nothing and I am a blank slate for tonight :)  In fact, I haven't even looked at the track listing or even taken the shrinkwrap off my copy of World Be Live!

I'll see all you beautiful people tonight!

Going tonight in SF. Doors at 7 and show at 8. Anyone know about when Erasure goes on?  How much time for Reed and Caroline?  Thanks!
Posted by: glazball, August 18, 2018, 10:46pm; Reply: 340
Reed and Caroline went on at 8:00, did about 30 minutes and Erasure went on at 8:50.  Have fun!  I'll be writing up my lil' review shortly :)

I was going to quote your other remark about Reed & Caroline as the worst opening act ever, but I'm too lazy right now!  My thoughts:

Mike I know you aren't a fan (and I still don't understand why not??) but I love Reed & Caroline's music.  I have to somewhat agree their onstage performance was lacking.  Or more accurately, Caroline's performance was (at my Austin show, 2nd evening) lacking.  She seemed disinterested and often sang out of tune.  Reed, on the other hand, did an excellent job and it was great seeing him work his gadgetry and his cello playing was impressive too.  V&A could make him a 3rd member of Erasure as far as I'm concerned - he is a talented mofo!  I also felt their setlist was poorly chosen and didn't always really move the crowd (for instance, John and Rene should have been switched out with something else).  I hate to even say anything negative because I did enjoy seeing them.  My wife did also and said as much to Reed & Caroline on twitter (I think) and even got a nice response from Reed!

Erasure, of course, were wonderful as always.  We had nosebleed seats and unfortunately, Vince was mostly hidden from my view due to hanging speakers.  I can't say I really liked him being up, out of the way.  I'm sure Vince loves it though.  He'd probably phone in his live performances if he could!  It was great to see Val and Emma, who always put a big smile on my face.

Tin Soldier will be happy to hear that I was thrilled to hear Phantom Bride live for the first time.  Just a Little Love was surprisingly good live too (it's not my favorite WBG track).  The other WBG tracks were great to hear, but I feel like I knew them 1000x better than most people in the audience who always go crazy for the obvious hits: CoL, ALR, Breathe, Always and Sometimes.

I was sad that nothing from Violet Flame was performed since I missed that tour.  Sacred on World Be Live is incredible.  And I hate to say it, but I'm glad I Love Saturday was dropped because it just doesn't make for a good live number.  Maybe that wouldn't be true in 1994/95, but Andy's voice just isn't as good in 2018.  Atomic was an interesting surprise - however I thought it came off a bit too loud and muddy, but maybe that's because it was unfamiliar to me (their version, not the original).

Also, I was avoiding spoilers but I now see that Erasure performed Queen's Love of My Life at a few shows as an encore!  In another thread, I was saying how happy I'd be to hear Erasure cover a Queen track.  Great stuff!  I was a little disappointed that they only did one encore, the oh-so-obvious ALR.  We had a great time and I can't wait to see them again after the next album :)

I really like the Reed part of Reed & Caroline.  I think his synth work is great.  I find Caroline to be a bit robotic in terms of her singing and stage performance.  One of the things I love about Vince was his ability to find very emotive singers to pair with his synth arrangements.  I believe Reed's music could benefit from that too.
Posted by: Tin Soldier, August 23, 2018, 3:34pm; Reply: 347
I'll say this: I wish Uncle Mike met Reed. Not that it would necessarily change an opinion about musical style, but Reed is impossible not to like when you meet him. :)

Still bitter (parting?) that they took out "Here I Go Impossible Again" from the N. American set-list! Also would've loved "I Love Saturday".  8)
