It just hit me that this needs to be a thread on our 4rum! There's a fabulous new documentary on Showtime in the U.S. (and On Demand) about the legendary Long Island new wave radio station WLIR called "New Wave: Dare to be Different" and Erasure is featured heavily!

Vince is interviewed several times throughout the film and they show clips of the band performing. Vince talks about, among other things, Andy being out and proud from the beginning without caring how it might affect their chart numbers.

Here's the trailer! I hope you all get a chance to see it! Other interviewees include Howard Jones, Midge Ure, Michael Pagnotta (who we know via Erasure), Billy Idol, Joan Jett, Tom Bailey of Thompson Twins, Katrina from Katrina and the Waves and so many more!!

For those who don't know (who?), WLIR became WDRE during the 90s, before becoming WLIR again (with WDRE becoming the simulcast Suffolk county station).

The pin below, if I recall, was from the time Erasure did a WDRE-sponsored album party for Chorus at the club Industry referenced here:

I went to Hofstra University on Long Island, so was lucky enough to listen to DRE all the time AND to frequent Industry! I missed the Erasure event however I did meet Nitzer Ebb there which was fun!!

It debuted on Showtime last Friday and then went to Showtime On Demand. However, I'm sure it'll get to Netflix and other services eventually! Will keep my eyes and ears open!

There's a screening tonight in Brooklyn with a Q&A from Lori Majewski and Vince extended family member Michael Pagnotta.

I may stick my head in...

I did, and was the "Erasure guy" during the Q&A. Seemed I asked the most relevant questions too (if I do say so myself).

Lori was ill, and couldn't come, but Michael was a fount of knowledge. I could've picked his brain for hours had I the chance. Sounds like Michael had tried to get Blancmange over here, too. Shame it hasn't happened yet.
