Well here's something we didn't know before after all this time!

VC: When he did that we both looked at each other and thought 'well this is a hit'. Daniel Miller was coming to have a listen and we didn't even bother to stay, we left a note saying 'we think this is a hit' and then Andy and I went down the pub. Originally the lyric in the chorus wasn't "sometimes" it was "ooh baby". The guy who mixed it said "you can't use 'ooo baby', come up with something else". It was a Mute studio, they had a record cupboard with all their releases in, and I was looking at lyrics on the backs of all these records. Depeche Mode had a song called 'Sometimes' and I thought 'ah well that'll work'. That's how it came about - you're the first person that I've told that to.

Taken from a new Quietus interview

Actually doesn't tha 'oooh baby' lyric appear in the Hits! Megamix byMark Towns?

Ha!  Very interesting   I guess after a while, nobody was gonna tell Andy when he can and can't sing "baby" so uses it every other line nowadays!

I've always found it curious how many Erasure and Depeche Mode songs share titles.  Now I know it's not always an accident!

Oh... really? Well I knew this already. It was in an interview not so long ago - either around the release of Moscow To Mars or maybe even as far back as the Always Best Of compilation. It might even be an interview you linked to Pughie!

...or maybe it was in those interview clips in the run up to the Moscow To Mars? Anyway, I've definitely heard or read that tale told before now.

Sometimes is a track sung by Martin on Black Celebration

Although I do have a soft spot for I Sometimes wish I was dead.

Live classic synth pop tracks you might have forgotten about.

Me too Pat.2000!  I remember spending a LOT of money for a UK import of Speak & Spell because the song was not available in the US.  I was so surprised when I heard it!  By the title you'd think it would sound like an early Cure song or something.

That's the main reason I love Vince so much.  He always juxtaposed depressing or sad ideas with uplifting and poppy music!
