In the feature Vince and creative partner Martyn Ware of Heaven 17 also revealed that they were confident a set of
Erasure covers recorded by the duo with Andy Bell and a violin player in an electronic ambient style would see the light of day at some point in the near future.

(taken from the Quietus interview)

This really sounds interesting and exciting and just goes to show Erasure can get up to all sorts of stuff without us knowing, with so many projects going on this looks like its going to be a great year for fans.

Time To Get Illustrious: Vince Clarke And Martyn Ware Interviewed
by John Doran , January 21st, 2013 11:13
— Are the ambient versions of Erasure hits recorded by you two and a violinist, ever likely to see the light of day?
— Martyn Ware: I would love them to see the light of day.
— Vincent Clarke: Knowing Mute Records, or EMI, or whoever owns it, it will definitely see the light of day. [laughs]

Odd, how we didn't see this before World Beyond. I'd still love to hear this.

Anyhow, was listening to PSB's Home & Dry (Ambient Mix), and thought back to 90s Erasure. I almost started an ambient Erasure album thread before I saw this again.

Covers or not, I'd still love to hear an ambient Erasure album. Something like a percussion-less Chrous or ISISIS would be lovely. I think this would work.

Maybe Vince will work with Thomas Feihmann again to do some ambient interludes of Erasure stuff

I would to see Vincent's interpretation using an old skool tb 303 bassline and a tr 808 with the old style cowbell would be a personal dream of mine

Funny; I thought that was an orchestral album. Silly me.

Well I can hardly agree that WBG is an ambient album, but it does sounds like this idea just morphed into World Beyond.  This thread has gotten me thinking about what V&A could do if they really went the ambient route for a full album.  I keep thinking back to the self-titled Erasure album as well as a few b-sides and Vince side projects that might qualify as "ambient".

I think some new material in that vein -could- work, provided that:
a. there is/are some semblance of a beat here and there.  Too ambient and it could be awfully boring, and boring is not what Erasure has ever been about (at least to me!).  Some of Vince's work with Martyn Ware can be a bit soporific at times.  (I feel that way about a lot of ambient music though.)
b. Andy includes some non-lyric vocals (with no or very few words).  Humming, holding long notes and some "oohs" and "aahs" and other vocal sounds would help accentuate the instrumental music, and could add a whole lot without Andy having to write and sing more trite "Baby, I love you baby" lyrics.

With Vince's penchant for cool sounds and Andy's knack for a catchy melody, Erasure could pull off an "ambient" album if they really wanted.  In my mind, it would be great because it would put Vince at the forefront of the music for a change.  I would think that Mute and the unwashed masses of casual fans may not jump onboard with the idea though, which is likely why we haven't seen anything like this under the Erasure banner yet.
